Hi all,

I've got a booting problem which lets me clueless and maybe some of you
would have a hint about it.
As it is, because of my server's old bios or whatever the cause, the
bios won't see my 40GB hd, so the only way I found to use it was to put
a small hd with only /boot on it. That allows me to go as far as grub,
which in turn is able to use my 40 hdd as root even though the bios
doesn't see it.

My problem is, I've just rebuilt a new kernel (2.6.17.1) which simply
refuses to use the 40GB hdd as root, it says it doesn't exist. Whereas
it's working fine with the other kernel (2.6.8.1) with the exact same
boot line (except for the 'kernel' directive of course).
So, would you have any idea of what I could have missed in the new
kernel's conf that causes that behaviour?

Thanks,
Mathieu.

If a function be advertised to return an error code in the event of
difficulties, thou shalt check for that code, yea, even though the
checks triple the size of thy code and produce aches in thy typing
fingers, for if thou thinkest "it cannot happen to me," the gods shall
surely punish thee for thy arrogance.
