I use xfree86 4.4 and it doesn't compile for me but with a different error.
My problem could be self induced but I've erased the evidence by
reinstalling and haven't tried java again.

I also get that error after trying to compile j2sdk with xorg. Are you using
the
xorg spell? Can anyone with xfree86* installed verify that j2sdk compiles
fine
for them? Or with xorg and verify that it doesn't?
