Moringa is grown - and its leaves consumed - a lot in semi-arid western
Niger. One simple local snack is made with the leaves and a peanut sauce
(cooked).

It was among the trees I planted in central Mali and middle Guinea in the
1980s, and people would often exclaim on seeing a Moringa how its leaves
made a great sauce. Funny thing was that I never knew anyone who actually
would cook a sauce with it until I went to Niger some years later. This was
probably due in part to low availability back then in those areas. Also the
tender leaves are not ideal for taking to market to sell once harvested,
and I do not know how drying affects their taste or nutrient content.

Kim, Yes it is tender, but it'll pop back from being frost bit- won't root
kill if mulched and if not too far below freezing- Definitely a
"warm-blooded" and very drought tolerant crop.

Greetings,

But not frost tolerant and the seed has a very low germination rate,
especially if it is a year old. Take a year off growing it, and you need to
buy new seed. Live where you don't have a really long growing season, you
have to buy seed annually. But yes, Moringa is great for some of us.
