Recipe discovery using oats:
Frugal food...breakfast & leftovers for later:
-
pot of boiling water
do not add salt or oil or sweetener
organic rolled oats (don't overcook, rolled rather than steel cut)
yellow or white corn grits, small amount, optional
cooked barley (optional)
pre-soaked or sprouted wheat or spelt berries (optional)
grated coconut
almonds
brazil nuts
(optional) pumpkin, sesame and sunflower seeds
unsulphured, unsweetened natural apricots
red flame or monukka raisins (or Thompson)
dried apples, currants, cranberries, prunes, cherries as desired
add water as mixture cooks and thickens - do not let stick to pan bottom
don't overcook
when done serve on deep plate
add (optional) nutritional yeast [Red Star type, flaky, nutty flavor]
herb salt (Herbamare ot Trocomare is excellent)
olive oil
turbinado sugar or honey or molasses or maple syrup or fruit preserves
soy milk (optional)
diced fresh apple (optional)
Refrigerate leftovers - serve cold later (reheat as desired) with nothing on it (good this way) or with the toppings listed above
with/wo salt and oil it becomes compatible as carb/starch substitute in meal main course in place of rice, potato or bread

This is really good food, nutritious, plenty of protein. Enjoy!
