I have seen this news article before and it?is scientific nonsense.? It is
not the first time the Russian press has published a pseudo scientific story
like this.? Anytime you run into this stuff. Find out if there is evidence
that this is a news report based on a credible study published in a peer
reviewed journal, or at minimum that the quoted scientist has done
substantial research in the field of climate change and is regularly
published in peer reviewed journals.

For an additional sanity check go to www.realclimate.org where some of the
best real climate change scientists in the world regularly debunk the junk
science disproven theories that are floating around.? Most of?the fraudulent
stuff?comes from a handful of people with direct or indirect ties to
Exxon/Mobil and the energy industry. They frequently work for rightwing think
tanks funded by Exxon/Mobil and others in the industry.? In this case the
Russians, who have substantial oil and natural gas reserves, seem to be
playing the same game.? A Google search on this story failed to turn up a
single link to Oleg Sorokhtin but the new release itself.? There is nothing
that says where he earned his degrees, and whether he has a body of research
he has published.

Be very, very suspicious of unsubstantiated stories like this.? The Solar
theory has been debunked over and over again by credible scientists. It just
ain't been supported by the facts. Satellite measurements show that solar
output has been constant for a good 50 to 60 years now.? Realclimate.org
covers this and other junk science theories in detail if you are interested.?
There is evidence that we are at the end of a long swing the Milankovitch
cycle that would have probably?led to a new ice age in about 2,500 years, but
that longterm trend has been overshadowed by dramatic increases in global
warming from anthropogenic sources - the burning of fossil fuels.

The theory of anthropogenic global warming, which is very settled science at
this point, is based on some elementary radiation physics that has been known
since the 19th century.? The effects of increases in CO2 into the atmosphere
is well understood and calculated. Additionally, scientists have the ability
to measure the isotopes of CO2 -?C12, C13, and C14. The ratios of those
isotopes in the atmosphere allows scientists to demonstrate that the rise in
CO2 is definitely from fossil fuels. Again you can find good explanations at
realclimate.org and other credible sources on the Internet, if you want to
learn more about the evidence for anthropogenic global warming.

So, what's being said here? Are we eating a line of crap about Global
Warming? Does this sentence mean that everyone is lying about the
warming? - " We have no reason to panic about allegations that ice in
the Arctic Ocean is thawing rapidly and will soon vanish altogether. As
it really is, scientists say the Arctic and Antarctic ice shields are
growing". So, what's up with up?"
