Could a Permaculture Virtual Reality system be created that would be linked
to a GIS
and supporting data storage and retreival systems that include wikis, blogs, galleries, video & audio and relational databases? Think of permaculture systems design using a tool like this; the ability to change input data during the course of designing a pc system and be able to experience it in a virtual reality display that can source still graphics, video, sound and text.

Walk a site with GIS equipment and laptop and camera. Design a permaculture
system for part or all of a tract
and input pertinent coordinates to a database ussing GIS, land features,
existing fauna and flora and extensive notes
taken while in the field and back in the office. Create overlays and look for patterns; revisit the site and reevaluate these patterns while making observations, taking notes and looking for others. Use the GIS/VR/Db to find even more and feed evaluations and observations back into the system. The VR could change display instantaneously in response to input data. What a tool for extended observation and pattern recognition, design synthesis and phenomena.

All this is probably too time consuming and expensive to be within reach of
most of the global permaculture community,
designers, teachers and practitioners but its is an interesting and practical
concept.

Maybe if there were a Global Permaculture Council, like a tribal oversight committee, some monied entiity would be interested in donating the necessary equipment to help make this happen, such things as:

2 Macs
4 quad-core pc's
4 laptops: 2 pc, 2 mac

Apps software
Intel OS's and Linux

GIS equipment
GIS software
VR equipment
VR software

digital camera, video camera, audio recorder, audio cards, digital drawing pad
