Are you a Certified Beekeeper? Do you want to increase the number of hives in your apiaries? If so, the NC Beehive Grant Fund will reimburse you for the cost of new hives and equipment. If you are a Certified, Journeyman or Master Beekeeper you qualify. Applications must be submitted between October 16 – December 15, 2017. Your application must include proof of your status as a Certified, Journeyman or Master Beekeeper. Instructions for obtaining a replacement certificate from NCSBA are available online.

Grantees will be reimbursed for proven expenditures as agreed upon in the grant contract. Grantees may receive up to the following.

  1. $200 per new hive
  2. $2,400 per maximum per grant contract
  3. $2,400 is the maximum allowed annually for any beehive grantee.

Detailed information is posted on the NCSBA website  Interested persons should read this information in its entirety. Email any questions to Paul Newbold, the Director of the NCSBA Master Beekeeper Program, at beefarmer1349 AT gmail.com.

If you are NOT currently Certified and:

  1. you successfully overwintered your hives in 2016-2017;
  2. you passed the written portion of the certification exam; and,
  3. you would like to take the practical portion of the exam to complete the Certification process.

Contact Randall Austin or John Rintoul. We will arrange for an OCBA Journeyman or Master Beekeeper to administer the practical exam as soon as possible. Typically, Certified Beekeeper certificates are sent out within a week following OCBA’s notification to NCSBA that the practical exam has been successfully completed. If you act quickly, you will still be Certified in time to apply for the NC Beehive Grant Fund.
