Please see the message below from the NC Apiary Inspectors. They lead the effort to pull together the beekeeping and honey exhibits at the State Fair. They are looking for volunteers to staff the state beekeeping information center at the fair. Beekeepers hang out to answer questions from the public. If you can answer the following questions, you qualify as a [“highly trained, super qualified” volunteer.
  1. How many times have you been stung?
  2. Does it hurt?
  3. Is that the queen? - Said while the questioner is pointing to a) a drone or b) the MARKED queen.

Really, it is a lot of fun. Especially the kids who generally know way more than their parents about bees and beekeeping. You will be working with other beekeepers, state inspectors, NCSU apiary studies students, and your friends from OCBA.

If you go to the fair anyway, this is a great opportunity for free tickets, public service and to earn public service credits toward your journeyman and/or master beekeeper certification. I highly encourage it.

If you have other questions, get in touch with Adolphus Leonard.
