John,

Understood.
There is HIGH demand for honey. Especially traceable honey. All bee products sell well as well. All 3 carrboro market vendors sell out pretty fast.

So there is community support $$ for folks

We cant keep up

Thanks, Marty. Your insight is helpful.

Market policies/limitations/financial feasibility were discussed by the OCBA Exec Board before we decided to poll the membership as to interest. If there is sufficient interest among our membership we will pursue vendor status with the market(s) that have shown specific interest in having honey vendors. In the long run it may or may not be feasible. But first we must determine whether there is interest among our membership. If there is interest, we will follow up with the relevant market managers.

John,

Some bee food for thought.
Though ea market is different there are still bylaws Each vendor must comply with.

At the carrboro the actual farmer must be present to sell...no reselling others items.
Also each individual will have to be inspected & approved. So dig in with the board their.

There are other issues with non traditional vendors like voting & seniority.

Then each person has to provide approved labels & info. Not so hard, but a process.

All things to consider moving forward. If you do proceed most folks around here its a limited product. Not appearing til june or july.

FYI it goes super fast in fall & holiday markets so maybe you can wait til then and sell at the prime time.

Oh...then there are "stall" fees each market. Who would be responsible ea week? A question for those selling

Good luck
Marty

I have received 3 responses to my earlier message about selling honey at the Hillsborough Farmers Market (see below). One of our members inquired about the possibility of selling other bee products at our proposed vendor booth - e.g. beeswax lip balm, candles, propolis tinctures, etc. I assume that all bee products are OK. We will verify that if we have enough interest. However since I’ve only heard from 3 people there may not be enough interest to warrant an OCBA vendor presence at the market.

So - LAST CALL - if there is a possibility that you would ever sell bee-derived products (honey, beeswax, pollen, propolis) at an OCBA Farmers Market Vendor Booth let me know. Otherwise we will drop this potential ‘OCBA membership benefit’ from our 2017 planning. We can always revisit it next year. We want to be responsive to the needs of our membership.

Thank you for your patience and forbearance with multiple messages bombarding you from the OCBA listserv. If it these messages overtax your DELETE key, you can always unsubscribe - although I would prefer that you didn’t.

OCBA’s Executive Committee met on January 8. OCBA is considering the possibility of establishing a vendor presence at the Hillsborough Farmers Market as an ‘enterprise vendor.’ This status would allow OCBA members to sell their own honey at the market. One or more members could sell each week and do a little community beekeeping education on the side. The Exec Committee is interested in feedback from members. Is this a club benefit that you would take advantage of? Would you sell your honey at the market? You would have to be present to do so. Send me email at beecd AT icloud.com to let me know if you would be interested.

And while we are on the subject of OCBA benefits remember that OCBA rents its honey extractor to members for $5 per day. This is a tremendous benefit for OCBA members. To take advantage of this benefit in 2017, you must be a member by March 31, 2017. Renew your membership now so that you can rent the extractor to harvest this summer’s honey.

Finally, we are still looking for graphic design talent to create a new bee shirt design for OCBA. If someone in our club has such talent, or would like to spearhead a committee to find appropriate downloadable graphics to help us develop a new shirt and get it printed that would be wonderful. We’ll comp you a shirt for your effort.
