The
2017 OCBA Bee School will be held Tuesday nights, 7 to 9 p.m.,
from January 17 – March 21, 2017
(10 weeks). In addition, there will be two hands-on Saturday
workshops. Topics include how to get started (selecting an appropriate hive site, how to acquire bees, etc.), choosing and assembling equipment, the tangible and intangible rewards of beekeeping, disease and pest management, basic honey bee biology, tasks throughout the seasons and much more. Instructors include NC Master Beekeepers, a NC Apiary Inspector and a NCSU apiculture researcher. The fee is $95 per person or $150 for couples, and includes a textbook, on-line supplemental material and the opportunity to participate in new-beekeeper support groups during your first year as a beekeeper. A couple may be husband/wife, parent/child, two friends, etc. Couples share a single textbook. Tuesday night classes are held at the Universalist Unitarian building at the corner of Old NC 10 and Lawrence Road (near WalMart), 1710 Old NC 10, Hillsborough, NC 27278. The Saturday workshops are held in northern Orange County. Registration is now open on-line at http://theocba.org/2017-bee-school/.
