- Subject: [ocba] Uncapped sugar water frames for winter?
- Date: Mon, 17 Oct 2016 12:44:52 -0400
Good afternoon,
I condensed down one of my hives this weekend and was left with 4 or 5 frames that have one side drawn with sugar water and the other side has no foundation. I would like to use these next spring but fear storing the sugar water this winter. I do not have any freezer space to hold them so I would like the bees to use the sugar water.
I've read about leaving the frames out near the hives and letting them rob the sugar water. I would prefer to prevent a robbing scene in my urban apiary. I also read about adding an empty super up top of my inner cover and placing the frames for the bees to clean. Making sure to block off the upper entrance with tape and topping with the telescoping cover.
Any suggestions or ideas for what has worked?
Mark
