You can always lay a burlap bag over the area you want to kill.  Pick up in a few days, everything underneath is dead or dyeing.

I will add that vinegar-based weed killers work very well!  I was skeptical so it took me a long time to try it, but once I did I have never looked back!

This is what we use.
1 gallon vinegar
1/4 epsom salt
1 tablespoon of Dawn

Here's a fairly good article regarding vinegar/soap based weed killers.


I've actually seen quite a few variations of the recipe (as the author also mentions).
