I had a smaller but similar issue and just turned the lawn sprinkler on the hives for a while. The girls calmed down quickly. Robbing is just no fun in the"rain". Then I retrieved the chunk of open comb that started it all and moved it away.

OK just moved the honey frames down onto my bball court about 100 yards from my hives and if the are fighting on the landing boards Walter I'm frantically making robber screens but how long do I need to leave the screens on?

Thanks

You should probably get as much distance as possible. If I'm letting the bees feed from an open source I keep it at least 100 feet or so away from the closest hive. Keep an eye on your hives. If you see any fighting on the landing boards just open all the hives or install robbing screens.

Hello all,

So when our hive passed away this winter they left an upper with 8 frames of honey and we put them in the freezer.  Well our freezer died last week and we haven't gotten a new one yet so I put the upper between two top covers so no ladies could find it.  This is where the plot thickens.

Yesterday my wife decided to clean the garage and removed the top cover that was upside down on the top of the super and now it's on!  The garage is perhaps Orange counties largest bee hive when I just ran home and suited up and moved the upper with the honey out closer in the yard to our two new hives.

Being a newbee beek I started to wonder if this might encourage the whole neighborhood bees to come and get some on 'em and if when they clean it out if this might cause the neighborhood bees to raid/rob my two new hives?

I'm thinking perhaps I should move the treasure farther away from my girls?  Is the above a likely scenario?  It looks like a drunken brawl right now around my hives so it's difficult for me to discern whether it's all my bees or if others are finding out and I didn't want to be the bad guy?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Tractor supply also has 5 gallon food grade buckets, pretty reasonably priced, and they have lids for them.

You don't actually need a hot knife. I never use one. Any serrated knife will work. I know many beeks that just use a dinner fork to scratch the cappings.

For an uncapping tank I just use an old top feeder and a board with a screw sticking through it to rest the frames on while I'm working on them.

5 gallon buckets are available for free at most grocery store bakeries. You'll just need to wash the frosting out of it (be sure it's good grade). So you would only need to drill a hole in the bucket for the honey gate. You'ld probably have to buy that, but it's only a few dollars.

Hello everyone,
Due to many reasons I have not been an active member of OCBA. I missed the April cutoff for membership and not able to rent the extractor.

I'd like to ask if anyone has personal equipment they would be willing to rent or loan?? I have found the extractor itself but need everything else i.e. Hot knife, 5 gallon bucket with cut off spout, and other equipment you would recommend I'm not sure to ask for.

I am not in a position to buy all of these things so thought I'd try here first.

Thanks in advance,
