Thanks for your thoughts, Marty.

Yes, I have a top feeder in a medium super (see picture below). But the
feeder was empty when this started and I've had no problems with leaks.

The opening on the inner cover faces the same direction as the hive entrance.
And . . . the inner cover opening is screened since it sits below the medium
(i.e. feeding) super and was not protected by the rim of the telescoping
cover.

There are no openings, gaps, etc. in the hive set up.

Queen at the back of the hive - who knows?
