At Randall's suggestion I started feeding a hive that was a bit weak in early July 1:1 sugar water and pollen and a new queen and the population was increased nicely but three weeks ago I didn't see anymore eggs or larvae. Have not seen any kind of queen or supersedure cells either so I decided I had no queen. Connie (my sister that usually finds queens for me) and I searched several times thoroughly since then so I bought a large fat queen from Bailey's day before yesterday. When I went to
install her, I saw about 24 little larvae but no eggs. My first thought out of frustration was to put her in and let the bees settle it but I really like this fat queen as I know I will always be able to find her. I thought about starting a nuke from the strong hive and combining it with the smaller hive just before cold weather or maybe starting it with the weaker hive bees and the combining would be more acceptable to them?
Is there anyone able to come, look over my hive and advise me? But that presents another problem: I live at the corner on Mt Willing Road and Chestnut Ridge Rd. one mile from interstate exit 160, Efland but there is a detour of 6 miles because a bridge is being replaced.
The queen and nurse bees are active in their cage and I give them a drop or two of water every day but how long can I keep her like this?
