Thanks Lanette...for expressing in a better way how I and others should email and reply on here and other sites.

I do tend to loose sight of that, but will have to add that I attended that OCBA meeting and was, like others, subjected to 52 mins (yes i timed it) of PR spin from Dick....i did not say anything then, nor have i chimed in w/ my obvious disbelief in that company. I held my tongue that night out of respect of the OCBA admin who invited him there and to an elder (not old ) OCBA member who works for them who was present. I sat on my hands and took this one sided speal all night, but do find it hard to do so on here. If the OCBA's goal is to promote unity and to offer equal sides to the bee topic then I personally do not feel it was best to have Dick as a speaker who supports such a one sided view about beekeeping....truth be told, his second sentence in sums it up. "I do not feel i am an expert on bees foraging"...thought this was why he was asked to speak to us that night...still do not get it. After that 52 mins of how Bayer is going to "save the bees" its been hard to not write in...and often to call them out on their fuzzy math research.

To Randall.......not much to say there that will not set off an alarm to lawyers or trigger a big distracting series of replies, but all i can say is that i expressed my opinion on an observation i had from Dicks (Bayers) own slides. I do not need letters in front of OR behind my name to give value or validity to that opinion!  Common sense goes along way and I do not know how expressing legitimate concerns about bees being subjected to chemicals is NOT allowed here, but anything else is in your book is OK? Still I wonder...why the thought or mention of Chemical Free beekeeping stirs up the pot so much...if its not your thing....just hit delete!

If the OCBA and this site is for ALL of us beekeepers and if its really for an OPEN exchange of information then why is it of late that the "chem-free" topics get met w/ such resistance? I also want to add that I am now, like Geneva before, feeling this topic will send a split between the OCBA. If I as a group member can not openly send a question or feeling about conflicting or direct information I obtained from the source without a so many negative and repressive responses like..."don't post libelous comments" ...then how are those of us who want to research or support a Chem-Free style of beekeeping NOT to feel intimidated?!!  Again...if its not your flavor...just hit delete!
Lastly, I feel the most for the bees in your care....after your comment..."These are just bees we are talking about; they aren't nearly as important as the basic humanity of the people we are conversing with." We are talking about bees...their health, their needs and how they are directly tied to us as a species and the environment. To belittle them in such a profound way is on you alone....

Thank you Randall.

It’s easy to forget that we are not sending letters to a machine, but to real people.  We ought to all remember that ALL of this is searchable on Google-this is a public forum.  If you are employed by someone, they can see this.  If you are self-employed, your potential clients can see this.  Everyone should take some time to look at the other side’s perspective and type as though you are talking at a public meeting to the person (or company representative) you are typing about.  There are some good questions being asked.  But it's important to remember that most of the time disagreements arise when people are just approaching a subject from different perspectives.

Folks,

Please don't post libelous comments to this beekeeping list. Remember that all it takes for someone to be an internet expert is a keyboard and an opinion. To be a real expert requires education, specialized training and years of direct experience. Despite the passion of someone's opinions, to accuse real experts of fraud and deception in a public forum such as this widely distributed list is not acceptable in polite society. Raise queries, offer personal insights, question the status quo, but do not insult people's integrity or knowledge. These are just bees we are talking about; they aren't nearly as important as the basic humanity of the people we are conversing with.

Thanks Annallys,

Just signed and will be passing this on.

Its still SO hard to believe that they were not intentionally hiding something anymore after Dick showed us his own Bayer Slides showing they knew bees have 3 "zones" they forage in. Just the first zone(ring) on HIS slide alone is over 3,000 acres so WHY only do a test on 2.5 acres if your own science shows they can forage up to 10,000 acres??   Intent has many faces....

Hopefully REAL science will prevail soon...for the best health for us all.

Hi all,

Please visit the following site to review a legal petition requesting the EPA suspend registration for the bee-toxic pesticide, clothianidin.  Please note in the comments section that another pesticide imidacloprid also produced by Bayer may have a higher lethality index for honey bees.
