Product liability insurance is available in NC and required by some farmers markets. If you purchase this policy you will be contacted shortly there after by the IRS to set up with them to pay the taxes on the honey you sell. That's been my experience anyway. Brian

Hi, I checked on my smallest hive, a cut out from this summer. Because they didn't have a lot of bee bread the last time I was in the hive I put pollen in the feeder a couple of weeks ago. Will stopped by to check the weight of the hive and it turns out it's light, so I will continue to feed them. What we found when the top was opened was the pollen tripled in volume!. I suspect the girls lack open comb to store pollen in and are now dumping it into the feeder. My request: Is there anyone out there willing to give up 6 medium frames with empty comb so that I can add a medium super to the hive? I'm willing to pay or barter for the frames or replace with new frames plus? Contact me off list at this email or by calling my cell phone. Regards,

Subject: [ocba] Elluminate Live! Session Invitation with Dr. David Tarpy, 1-19-2012

Hi everyone,
Happy new year! I trust everyone's 2012 has start off well...
Just one last reminder about the upcoming beekeeping webinar on January 19th (see details below). Many of you have already expressed your interest in attending the webinar, so please use this information from the Elluminate system to log on and join. So far, we now have a record 11 different county chapters who will be participating (Mecklenburg, Davidson, Chatham, Johnston, Surry, Scotland, Anson, Catawba, Burke, Montgomery, Franklin?plus possibly another chapter from VA), but let me know if you or your chapter would like to take part!
The topic for the session is quite timely: Coming out of winter. That time of year (late winter/early spring), it is critical for the beekeeper to do everything s/he can to ensure colony survival, and we will discuss the various methods of doing so.
I look forward to this first of many similar beekeeping webinars, but in the meantime let me know if you have any questions! Sincerely, David

I was poking around the Beesource.com forums looking for some other
takes on the whole insurance thing - I never expected to find that many
people have had their homeowner's insurance policies canceled because
they have hives on their property. Good grief!

I seem to recall reading similar posts about people with backyard
chickens. Bees and chickens? It's not like I'm breeding cockfighting
roosters and killer bees in the back yard.

I'm going to meet with an independent agent this week to see which
companies will insure homeowners with "ag" hobbies /before /I call and
talk to my current insurance company. I'm probably more risk averse than
most people when it comes to insurance. I worked for a while as an
insurance inspector and "don't ask, don't tell" makes me nervous. I'd
hate to have a claim - even one completely unrelated to our hobbies -
and have it denied. I'll pass on what I learn.
