Kate, Thanks for this link! It's important for us beekeepers to know that the most prevalent pesticides in our hives are the ones that we put in them (fluvalinate aka Apistan, and coumaphous aka Checkmite). I believe many of our backyard beekeepers are trending away from these heavy pesticides. Read about Certified Naturally Grown Bees and Honey. It's important to have a game plan to deal with mites. If you have bees, you have (or will soon have) mites. I encourage folks to start thinking about their plan of attack now.
