Thanks. That could be it. We're trying to figure out what to do about them. Here's an idea. Build a moat around the base of the tree. Just a small ring, maybe two or three inches wide, assuming the worms won't be able to cross water (or is that werewolves?).

Question is how to build a moat. Our tree is very young. I'm thinking we could use a mix of sawdust and elmer's glue. It is maleable and once it hardens, it will hold water.
Other ideas?

Regards,

Jay

Take a flashlight out with you when its good and dark and see if you find any
creepy crawlers on the trees

Help. I've got a young Yellow Transparent apple that has been trying to put out leaves for a month now and they keep getting eaten by something. I haven't seen anything eating it. We don't have animals that would browse it. No deer. And it's not rabbits because there are actually more leaves at the bottom than at the top. I'm thinking grasshoppers but it's still cool here at 7000 ft and I haven't seen grasshopper activity.

Any ideas of what's doing it and how to combat it? The trees been putting out new attempts at leaves but can't keep that up forever.

Regards,

Jay
