The special characters have been coming through intact to my computer.  I have the impression that if your programs/OS can generate them, some computers will read them, others won’t, depending on what they have on board.  I have sent out emails with special characters, but when someone opens the mail on their computer and replies, the character will have been replaced with a square or question mark.  Years ago I asked about that once or twice, and found that the characters never displayed on their machine.

Rivka meant on a Mac option and zero - not option and "Ooh"/O.  In Massachusetts this morning its 66º not 66ø at 10:12 a..m.
