I did it once by accident. I use fruit tree prunings to support my peas
vines. I stuck them in and they rooted and leafed out. After that I took to
sticking them in upside-down. That stopped the rooting.

My 2 cents:

I don't think you stand any chance rooting any pear from hard wood cutting.

I'd root like filberts, which is essentially stooling. Its not hard just
something new to get used to.
