Yes, I've put ''North Star'' sour cherrry on Prunus Serotina.
Took, then never thrived, finally died off.
Prunus Serotina is a raceme-bearing cherry, like the Prunus Virginiana
['chokecherry'] that has
been recently discussed here. Serotina is really radically different than
the sour or sweet
european cherries, that bear off the stem in clusters.
The only american-native cherry that bears in clusters off the stem is Prunus
Pennsylvanica,
which I think is called Fire Cherry.
You might put Virginiana on Serotina or vice-versa, but that's about all,
unless foreign
raceme-bearing cherrries can be found.
Prunus Pennsylvanica has a root system with powerful laterals, can sucker up
and spread. Maybe
you could put european cherries on it, more compatible than Serotina.
If there are any named selections of Prunus Serotina, I'd be interested to
hear of them.

zone 5/Massachusetts/home of zillions of Prunus Serotinas
...though the cherry furniture usually comes from Pennsylvania.
