SWINE FLU IN UTAH - News release...

Repeating this.. hope the link works you your end.  It is the recent news release stating that swine flu was pandemic in Utah.

Whether Kenneth Paul officially died of swine flu, I for one have not seen any additional news release other than what was issued in the All About Cutting website.

The general public will probably never know since apparently no followup seems to be appearing concerning his autopsy on the internet.

Irregardless, for the general public and according to the above news real, the swine flu is a current concern in Utah.

JORENE - This was posted before your responce regarding the current events of swine flu in Utah.  It was a LIVE  news release.  Hoping the video clip is still active.  I too saw numerous reports on the virus prior to 2009.  However this was a live reel of news from taht area aired in recent days.

As for Kenneth Paul, it was the  website below called All About Cutting that reported that an autopsy was preformed on Mr. Paul and to which they said swine flu was beign nvestigated in this autopsy.. to date and still, however....no confirmation has been made to the actual cause of death of Mr. Paul...swine flu however was what the doctors suspected.

So if your looking for more information to what you claimed is a rumor, perhaps go to the websites in question that were made with the post.  I am not responsible for any information that may have been changed within the time frame of my post and any updates the sites have made and information on the internet can be changed very rapidly.

Also, if you are gonig on what perhaps wikipedia was saying about the 2009 information posted about swine flu there.. the site though they try are also not up to speed on current events as per the news release the last week regarding the swine flu in Utah to which was a 2011 report this past week.  Wikipedia is notoriously not always up to date on current events, all though they try to be accurate on their subject matter.  Just as I try to be accurate also in passing information.  Thank you.

Here was my post prior to your raising question of "rumour".  You can try to go to those links but like I said, I am not responsible if the links have been updated or changed since I too made their post. If you have ever tried to keep up with a website that constitutes many pages.. it is not always easy to be current on all counts of pages.  As for what I brought to the table here for MSAR, the reporting was accurate and to the best of my knowledge and sources  to what those sites posted when I collected the data from them to post here.

Glory Ann Kurts on May 9th was the All About Cuttnig reporter and her reprint is below along with the website All About Cutting and to where her article came from.  That website BTW, is quite extensive and numerous obituaries and other news was posted there the very same day.

I hope you can access both the news release on the May 2011 Utah report onthe swine flu as well as the All ABout Cutting.

I for one am not in the habit of perpetuating rumor.   And if you read thoroughly the websites that were provided and got the news. I do not beleive the sources therein are in the habit of perpetuating rumor either.

The problem herein was that numerous EHV-1 articles were rampant, while the swine flu matter had minimal reporting.

Yup, the information Highway... where somethings go overlooked or under reported.  Thank you for bringing that to everyones attention and if you have more information that calls it a rumour, well then I think reading what was posted will help take care of that and get you the facts you seek or seek additional sources that might substanciate what you think is a rumour.

Again, if the information that was provided were  changed by those sites editors, and or updated, I was not irresponsible for what they changed in what I brought forth in what I could only assume was accurate by those sites in real time.

If indeed someone has a question regarding the results of Mr. Pauls atopsy and if indeed swine flu was confirmed.. they would bwe best to contact authorities in that state and location and to try to garner that information...
I have not seen any further news reports to update the actual cause of death as stemmed from Glorys report.  So it is unsubstanciated to be calling any of it a rumour since the information is not actually verified.

My concern is both people and horses and I dislike inaccurate information just as the next guy.  So see below if that helps you.  And please, the written word is not easily expressed as accurately as a spoken word and something always gets left to interpretation.

As for swine flu in Utah and the Odgen cuttng horse event to where EVH-1 started.. neither are rumour and both are prevalant to the best of my knowledge.  I beleive the count  yesterday was  some 80 people were down with the swine flu and some 34 horses as of yesterday were infected with the equine herpes viruse called EVH-1.   The Department of Ag and the state vetrinarians could tell owners of horses in transport what they need to do and asking your own doctor  what he knows and thinks you should do to protect your own health when you travel.

We are not trying to cause fear here.  Just raise awareness.

TRAINER KENNETH PAUL DIES WHILE AT NCHA WESTERN NATIONALS

By Glory Ann Kurtz
May 9, 2011

Kenneth Paul, 35, Estancia, N.M., an NCHA trainer, passed away on Saturday after he had competed and placed in two classes at the Western National Championships in Ogden, Utah. According to reports, he got sick on Thursday and died Saturday morning. There are reports that doctors are thinking it was the swine flu and an autopsy has been done; however, the results have not yet been received.

Paul, worked for Cyle Sharp on a ranch in New Mexico. Sharp is the same man that June Mitchell worked for while he was alive. In Ogden, he finished third in the Open Division riding Badger Poo for Stephen Harrington, Estancia, N.M., earning $3,507. He was also a finalist in the $3,000 Novice Horse riding Catsblue Boon, owned by him and his wife Shauna, where he took home an additional $750.

According to the NCHA web site, funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14 at 2 p.m. in Moriarty, N.M. at Lonnie Wright’s Rockin K Arena, located six miles north of Moriarty on NM 41, on the east side of the road.

Incidently,

Have not seen the official word on the autopsy of Kenneth Paul regarding what doctors suspected being the swine flu regarding Kenneth Paul, however with the news release above, Utah is definitely having human as well as equine health concerns

(wash your hands....)  Dont know how long it takes for Swne Flu to be verified as a cause of death from the time of autopsy.....

GOOD QUESTION!

In short, its not impossible according to that article.. but more importantly, while horses are not generally victims of swine flu people are.
?
Which brings us back to Utah where the news media has said that the swine flu is again pandemic.
?
In reading all the articles on the EHV-1 virus and the cutting horses, it never ceases to amaze me that how an industry can be so self centered on their own situation and fail to realize that CUTTING HORSES ARE NOT A BREED.? And no less how the news media will run with it.
?
Makes you really wonder if that association has tracked down all its people that were at the show and what?steps they took to notify other equine associations? ?Surely there is a list of attendees that showed at Ogden?and brought horses to the ring.
?
Makes you wonder too how many of the horses got home, maybe died later and no vet was called, and possibly exposed?a neighboring equine or other?farm.? Or one of the cutting horses at the show went trail riding or to another show and got them?exposed?

Swine flu in relation to Kenneth Paul's death is nothing but a rumor at this
point, so I'd hope folks are not perpetuating the unsubstantiated rumor with
even more speculation.

I found a cutting horse web site mentioning the unconfirmed possibility (AKA
irresponsible reporting) of swine flu causing Kenneth Paul's collapse and
subsequent death. I'm guessing there were flu-like symptoms, someone asked
if swine flu was possible, and a doctor indicated that all possibilities -
including swine flu - would be explored ... and the rumor of "swine flu!"
spread from there to the online article that neglected to confirm with a
reliable source. Paul's obituary simply indicates a sudden illness, and
other articles indicate waiting a couple of weeks for autopsy results.

The only references I can find online regarding a swine flu pandemic in Utah
are from 2009, when there was indeed a pandemic. I cannot find any report
that swine flu has been reported / confirmed in Utah in 2011. I found one
2011 article reporting a USA death with traces of H1N1 a contributing
factor.

If anyone has a link to current - check the date! - information confirming
swine flu (H1N1) is particularly active in the USA, much less swine flu
confirmed as causing/contributing to the death of Kenneth Paul, please share
that link ... if from a responsible and reliable source. (For example, an
announcement by a public health official.)

Meanwhile, there are still more horses being suspected/confirmed of having
EHV-1 ... not a rumor.
