Hi Irv,

Below is all I have for now.  It is the classic walk in the woods with the family dog - dog leaves child - child looks for dog –  child gets turned around – Child is found 1 ½ miles from home.

Press Release:

Officers say 14-year-old Amy Britton was walking with her mother Friday morning, and went ahead with the family dog. But, when Britton's mother got to the house her daughter was gone.

She was reported missing and authorities began searching for the teen around 9 p.m. on Friday. Although they didn't suspect foul play, or believe Britton had run away, authorities called in plenty of help to find her. Rescue crews from more than 10 different agencies spent hours scouring the wooded area around her home.

With helicopters over head and rescuers on the ground, crews spent most of Saturday morning searching for 14-year old Amy Britton.

"In a missing child's case time is of the essence,” said Randy Krantz, Bedford County Commonwealth's Attorney.

Officials launched a massive search with help of several surrounding agencies. Rescue squads blocked off Foxx Runn Drive and Coffee Road, leading to the young girl's home.

"It appears right now that a relatively young child got separated from her mother, and took the wrong direction and literally got lost," said Krantz.

The young teen spent most of the night in the woods with no water, shelter, or food.

“The temperatures didn't get down that low last night, but it was cold. I'm sure this young lady was very cold," said Bedford County Sheriff Mike Brown.

Rescue crews got their break after 10 a.m. on Saturday, when a K-9 unit from Harrisonburg found the girl safe in a wooded area about a mile and half from her home. It was the first rescue for Uzi and his handler Laurel Strotter.

"We're on a high right now. It's very rewarding for us, because it takes us two years to train a dog, to get him to this point," said Ronnie Rhondes, Team Member for Harrisonburg Blue and Gray Dog Rescue.

"So many of theses cases do not turn out well, they turn out very sad. And, we are delighted that it turned out that way it turned out," said Sheriff Brown of Bedford County.

The family dog, a beagle-lab mix is still missing. Britton was taken to an area hospital to be treated for dehydration and any other possible injuries. Officials say they plan to interview her in the next few days to learn just exactly what happened
