Let me clarify my prior post...
Call the sheriff and ask if they know of any SAR teams.

A second call would be the local Fire Department.
Third, the local forestry office (if you live near the forest).
Your state police might know
Your state will know based on 501 C3 filings

Or just do what I did, next time you hear of a search underway in your
area
Show up as a ground pounder and tell them to put you to work.
If they don't want you in the field, the command center is just as good
Manpower is Manpower even if your first search is fetching water or
passing
out flyers
Or even signing people in and out.

It all needs to be done.

My first search, I showed up and asked "What do you need?"

The reply, "Horses", so I drove the 2 miles back to the house, grabbed
a
load of 6 horses
with tack and went back. Had 5 strangers riding the extra horses for
the
next 3 days.
Fortunately all of my horses except 1 can be ridden by kids in the
brush and
are all parade safe. That was 6.5 years ago. And I am still active on
the
team.
Granted, not as much as I used to be, but I do what I can.

Now I may be flamed for this but...

There is no such thing as not being useful on a search.
Just go to the next one, even if it's only law enforcement doing the
search
Offer to get them supplies, such as water, or maps, paper, or my
favorite,
doughnuts.

You will be surprised how fast they will let you help.
That is, if they are smart, and realize they need help.

HEY THOR!!

LMAO THOR!!!  Heck with the doughnuts!! BRING HAY!!
And I am with Irv, who the heck is cutting any trees...NOT IN MY WOODS YOU WON"T!!
LOL...making a raft to ferry horses on???  That guy has got to be kidding....that's a heck of a lot of lumber to saw with a hand saw...send a pic of the raft will ya!  JEEZ!  Saw a raft on a John Wayne movie once with horses on it though.. Whooohoo!

Seriously, My first search, we showed up with one man, one horse and me, a lariet and a pair of two way radios... eight horses showed up, 4 were vol. firedepartment...they splight and I got charge of the other 3 riders...go figure.. and yes, we did a good job.

Ok, now back on the subject of hay.. GUYS, we are seeing a lot of round bales out there just rotting away... can you send it our way before it gets to be compost...I wish I could pay you for it, but we are not in a postion to do so and got to get it for this winter...HELP PLEASE!

Thanks for the laughter, somedays we all need it.. it too is what keeps us all going!  God bless!
