Hi Lori,

You have found us!

There are a handful of MSAR units in Michigan. Probably the closest to
you is the one in Mecosta County. Next closest would be Great Lakes
Search Team. http://www.ibiblio.org/msar/units/#Michigan has links but
I see the one for the unit in Mecosta County has been bought out ...
okay I found the correct current link: http://www.barnboy.com/atmp/ .

You mention a mounted posse: in which county? Your town is in Newaygo
County; do they have a mounted posse? Some mounted posse groups are
up for search and rescue, some aren't. I am always interested to know
which is which, so please follow up with that.

You mention "on the trail" training. Many search missions involve work
*off* trails. For some riders cross country riding is scary, for others
it is the best thing ever. You can help make it a thrill not a scare
for yourself and your teammates by doing some training (on foot) with
an orienteering club. http://www.us.orienteering.org/ has a directory
of clubs all across North America.

I encourage you to join our discussion group (e-mail list); see its
blurb: http://www.ibiblio.org/msar/msar-riders.html .

Cheers,
