performance...." however as a volunteer you generally do not have that
option so, it is important to gather this data quickly upon arrival at the
site and then to have the ability to be flexible in riding with strange
horses and other people.....

Which is precisely why some SAR managers won't use spontaneous
volunteers. And why there is a widespread trend for MSAR units
to become stand-alone organizations rather than being a subset
of a social riding club's membership.

Two field training events are scheduled in September in Indiana
and Illinois. See http://www.ibiblio.org/msar/events/ and try to
participate if at all possible. I suggest you attend without a
horse, so you can focus on maximizing SAR training for yourself.

>>>>UNA,
Thank you for that input, I would love to hear from other RIDERS in or
nearby or EVEN IN MY COUNTY that would be interested in going to such an
activity. Thus far and for well over an year now, I have heard nothing from
any horsemen professional or otherwise who are riders in my county being
involved in MSAR and so will also happily take your info into account and we
are not talking making a new "social club"...

Anyone in IROQUOIS - if the trend is so wide spread....hello, where are
you!?

The problem will always remain though in that you will not have that option
whether you volunteer or go cross county or cross state on any mission...the
units will always be subject to change as wil the missions.

A problem persists too that there is always the consideration of
funding...or lack of it...
so attending events as such is not always easy to do whether or not you
volunteer or are otherwise and as said, little or no activity has been
present in this local.
