So where are the Ducks located?

Great! Where?

The Laci and Connor Search and Rescue Fund has nothing to do
with training SAR teams. Its main purpose is to solicit funds,
and it is operated by the Sund/Carrington Foundation. Per
http://www.lacipeterson.com/sundcarrington.html, the mission of
the foundation (and this fund too, apparently) is "to provide
funds to families without economic means to offer rewards for
information". If you are not in the US you might not know Laci
Peterson was a pregnant woman, and Connor her unborn child, who
were murdered. The search, and the eventual criminal trial of
her husband Scott Peterson, were a media sensation in the US.

You have found MSAR-Riders (welcome!), so you are ahead of the
game. Look at our web archive, dating back to 2002; the topic
of starting up a new team and getting training has been popular
and there is a lot of good information in our archive. You can
Google it: use the Google Advanced Search page, and restrict
your search to the domain ibiblio.org.

Below is a link to the story concerning lost hikers. What is =
interesting is two fold. 1. In Ohio the usual agency in charge of lost =
persons are the local volunteer fire departments. Ohio does have some =
state documents the state the Department of Natural Resources should be =
in-charge or other local law enforcement agencies, but in reality the =
fire departments get the nod. If you notice, the story does not mention =
any law enforcement agencies nor park rangers. 2. The other =
interesting aspect, there were mounted searchers, but as far as I know, =
they were just the local OHC people, not a trained group.

Yes, the local 911 dispatchers will be most familiar with local
resources. Even in New Mexico, where most SAR missions are
handled by the state SAR system, local resources sometimes do
get called and go it alone.

In this case, it appears the lost persons knew generally where
they were, and told 911. And they were not hurt and could make
a fire. So it was a simple matter of going out and escorting
them back to their vehicle(s).

They might be a local riding club *and* trained in SAR...but odds
are Chuck you are correct. I will try to locate them and invite
them to join us.

Lawrence County is in the southernmost tip of Ohio, in a corner
between Kentucky and West Virginia. (IIRC, beautiful and lush!)
