Una: I apologize for not making myself very clear on this subject. Our MSAR
is under the SO, but not considered under the same SAR ( a separate unit )
MSAR has been around for about 7 years the SAR for about 20. I have been in
for a little over 4 years. I know that there had been problems in the past
with the Sergeant of the SO that is over the MSAR and the Commander of the
SAR they have been slow in healing from this. I have been Commander of the
MSAR for over a year. The SAR Unit has had about 15 missions this year in
this year we have had 3 call outs and two standbys, this is a 99% increase
over the past 6 years for call outs so I know it is not a ego or butting of
heads with me and the SAR.
I think it is more of the fact that they just don't think about other
resource's. And I think your right about showing not telling they need to
see for them self's what we can do.

We need for them to understand how best to use and deploy us. If they would
call and have us on stand by while they do a hasty search I can be preparing
my unit.

Our MSAR has at this time 9 certified members but because it is a volunteer
unit it's numbers differ from year to year going from 6 members to 15 as with
most MSAR. We practice once a week. We train with GPS, Maps, Compass, we have
had some night practice's I would like to do more next summer, and hasty
search's and more thorough search's we encourage all members to take
first-aid classes etc. The SAR gave us their old radio's this year so that's
a plus.

I guess all in all we are doing better then in the past with getting used. Is
3 callouts and 2 stand-bys a fair percentage out of 15 missions? Thanks Pam

Thanks for catching that. We commonly train all SAR personnel to ICS 200
since there is potential for more experienced folks to be assigned as a team
leader if we end up with a lot of spontaneous volunteers to supervise. But
you're correct the minimum requirement is ICS 100.
