FYI - the testing (see below) for Mounted SAR will occur on Sunday July 11 in the East Bay Area of CA on Mt. Diablo. We're looking for riders to participate. If you happen to know any MSAR riders in central CA who might be interested, please forward this to them.

As you may be aware there is a National Search & Rescue Committee (NSARC) POD Experiment being conducted throughout the United States in various climate regions. BASARC has been ask to participate in this study for the "Mediterranean" region.

The experiments consists of a 3 to 4 km trail with various targets (clues) along the way. Teams are set out on the trail at approximately 15 minute intervals and their observations are recorded for future analysis. Previous experiments were able to determine a sweep width value for several unresponsive  human search objects. The sweep-width value is an experimentally derived "detectability index" that is used to determine a teams probability of detection (POD) based solely on objective measures present at the time of the search. There is a lot of math involved for the researchers.

All of the previous experiments have been just for ground teams. What is new is that the researchers would like to do an equestrian study.
