Jorene,
I recently purchased goldfish to keep in my horses water containers this keeps them nasty bugs from breeding in the tanks. I was also told in albuquerque they were giving fish away to keep still water moving.
My barn cats love the concept of fish in the troughs. <g> Another option is the Mosquito Dunk. Safe for kids, animals. Pressed into the shape of a donut, it floats on the surface of the water. Contains a bacteria that the emerging larvae consume, and it kills them. Costs me less than $1/trough/month, and it is effective mosquito abatement.
