If you haven't already looked into it there is a great group called the
Northeast Hop Alliance. Event listings, resources, links, etc. everything
geared towards rebuilding hop production in the northeast. Also Cornell
Cooperative Extension of Madison County hired its first Hop Specialist within
the last year or so. He's available to help growers get up and going with
hops.

We've had a few "backyard" vines here and there for a few years but nothing
major. There's been probably five new hop yards that I've seen pop up around
here in the last two years.(CNY area).

If I were to prioritize my experiences it would be;

- as with any perennial crop get your soil and weed control headed in the
right direction pre-planting
- be prepared to aggressively cut back and remove annual growth and don't
hesitate to hack back the new rhizome shoots each spring leaving one to three
shoots per "hill"
- be prepared with a trellis/growth structure. A BIG one. Most of the new
growers around here are using a telephone pole style system with heavy gauge
top wire. They'll then drop lines down off that vertically to each hill.
- sample many hoppy beers(its critical market research of course!)
