Richard,

How do you bend steel?  Or don't you need to do that?

Thanks,

I know its not an answer the question but...

...we almost never use our torch anymore, regardless of the gas being used.  It might still have value in the field where you ahve zero access to electricity or if you need to work something really delicate.  For fabrication and 99% of all our repair welding we never get the gas out.

We use cut-off wheels, air snips, and a mig and stick.

Although I've never used an oxy-propane torch, I understand that is doesn't have as hot a flame as oxy-acetylene.  I can't speak to the practical implications of that, but I would expect that one could heat or cut more quickly with acetylene.

If you'll only be cutting and heating with the torch Oxy-propane is a good choice.  If you plan to do some welding also, oxy-acetylene is a better choice.

I'm looking at cutting and heating torches for the farm shop.  Sounds like propane with oxygen works well, just not widely known, and propane can be gotten anywhere.  Any experience with this?
