Regarding the Hanley hoop house, I built a version of it using 20 ft PVC pipes instead of 24 ft square steel tubing.  I was going for cheap and no bending steel.  It has worked quite well for me, and if you would like to check it out, you can go here: http://tomsgardens.wordpress.com/page/4/

For more details on the building of it, you can click on the construction photos link in the article, or go here:  http://tomsgardens.wordpress.com/my-homemade-hanley-hoop-house/

Hello everyone,

As we are discussing hoophouse, I thought I might share two good
resources on the topic of building low-cost DYI tunnels that I found.

First, Dan Brisebois from Ferme Coopérative Tourne-Sol here in Québec
has many article on the topic of low-cost tunnel on his blog.  The main
one is:

    http://goingtoseed.wordpress.com/2010/08/31/tunnels/

Second, the Kerr Center in OK has a very good and very detailed PDF that
explains how to use galvanized square tubing for low tunnel hoops.  It
seems very sturdy indeed.  You can read more at:

    http://www.kerrcenter.com/publications/hoophouse/index.htm

I've got no experience doing a DYI hoophouse myself, so I cannot comment
on how well the above concepts works, but I thought it might be of
interest to some.  I'm really starting to consider building one for my
seedling next spring.

Etienne
