Has anyone had success spraying insecticidal soap solution in the borer holes?

Actually, I think that's a fairly standard treatment; but I've never used it, so can't give advice as to how.

I think, however, that you may want to try to inject the Bt actually into the borer, if you can tell where it is. Another technique (that I have used a couple of times) is to just take a pocketknife and slice lengthwise through the bulge where the borer is -- you can probably kill the borer and not kill the squash stem. Cover the injured stem with soil afterwards; the plant may put extra roots down there, which will help make up for any injury.

Pyrethrum every 5 days, in addition to being a large nuisance and a difficult schedule to keep anywhere with erratic rain, is likely to be hard on beneficials. Also, if you're concerned about organic use, be careful: not all formulations are permissible. (Also true of Bt formulations, of course.)

The borer would have to eat a lot of bt before it died. I can not see how it would work. Spray pyrethrem every 5 days and you should not have any problem with borers... Bob.

Hello All,

This has been one of the worst seasons I can remember for Squash Vine Borer.  I have heard about folks injecting Bt (Dipel) above the worm in the stem.  Does anyone have any experience with this?  How did you do it?  I'm thinking I can feel the stem to tell were the worm(s) are at an then injecting the Dipel/water mix above them.  Any info would be great!
