I've read that horticultural grade vinegar (20% acetic acid) will work but is hard to come by unless you want a 55 gallon drum.

Regular vinegar will also work, eventually. Apply a lot of it to the leaves on a bright sunny day. Repeat when it grows back, which it will. The ivy will give up sooner or later.

Whether it'll work fast enough for your purposes I don't know.

Good luck,
