I work with cold-climate winegrape producers, and a few market farmers who
use them. While not as good as benchtop pH meters, the handheld ones seem
reliable enough for field work. But keep them from being abused or they can
be broken or thrown off calibration. They are much better, and handier, than
strip tests. If you can get a model that you can calibrate, it's probably
worth the extra dollars.
