Its true that daily hours of sunlight have an impact on fruit development and
maturity. However, the newer varieties from the Swenson breeding program were
developed in northern Wisconsin. They grow well in areas of low heat units
and are very hardy to -30F or colder. Because of your situation, I'd suggest
you at least give Swenson Red a try. If you can ripen it, and it might there,
it would be worthwhile trying.
