yeah, it's first-come-first-serve unless you're one of the lucky ones to get a permanent spot from a long waiting list which we are on.  fingers crossed we will get one this year, spots are assigned every July, with full payment of a year's rent which is a chunk of change but very reasonable considering it includes 104 market days a year.

Marie, it was funny...after I cried & cussed ; ))))  And to top it off 3 times I stopped to gas up, pulled in, struggled with the locking gas cap that my father-in-law put on in his paranoia about people stealing his gas when prices skyrocketed last year, got the dang thing off, stuck my debit card in, twiddled my thumbs, when instructed stuck the nozzle in the tank only to be told by the computer to see the cashier before the pump would start.  Come to find out the stupid stores weren't open (couldn't tell, all the lights were blazing and cars were in the parking lots but apparently these cars belonged to the surrounding apt complexes.  The stores don't leave their pumps on after hours .  Up here in Hicksville, uh, sorry, Hillsville, pumps are left on even when the stores are closed) so that was frustrating to say the least.

it was an experience to never repeat.  especially not at those god-awful hours!

Is there any way that you could set things up so that you could call the market manager enroute, explain that you're held up in traffic hassles but are still doing your best to get there, and ask them to save your usual spot? Or is that market just entirely first-come-first-served?
