Hi DebM,

Our Market is struggling too due to mis management. But this year the prior managers have decided to step away and a group of us are putting the market together for 2005.

I've also read The New Farmers Market, and I found it to be essential reading. Also "how to make your Small Farm Profitable' had some great ideas about marketing that could be put to use for a larger group effort.

If your consumer group is an 'iceberg group' then make sure that along with all the various other heirloom and 'exotic' products that you have the freshest most wonderful iceberg lettuce that they can find. The familiar will bring them to the market, then you can educate them with recipes using both iceberg and the other types of food that you offer. You may not make any money selling the iceberg, but it will be your draw to bring that group in, since that is what they want. It's always been our practice to give our customers what they want and then to get them to want what we have by mixing it up together.

Good luck!
Blessings of the season,
Karen
