I've never had trouble with voles or deer in our garlic, though we have
plenty of both. But we did have trouble with canada geese a couple of times.
They'd feed in the garlic planting, thinking the fresh garlic shoots were
grass seedlings. They'd pull the cloves out of the ground, then move on. By
the time the cloves were found they were dessicated. We plant the cloves
deeper now and the geese don't seem to be able to pull them out.
