Might add there is no level playing field with imports. The transnational
corporations in food growing, processing, and shipment often use illegal
transfer pricing to avoid taxes in both countries, and have government
financing for many operations, plus the race to the bottom in lower wages and
land costs. Land costs are too often rock bottom through cozy arrangements
with foreign governments at a cost to indigenous populations. Then too,
pesticide, herbicide and other health and safety regulations can often be
sidestepped at serious cost to their workers.
