I harvested my garlic last week, have 25 large bunches hanging in our
machine shed, out of the sun. Never had a problem with flies. I think
mainly because the garlic isn't appealing to the bugs, also because they're
contained in their own natural wrappers - no moisture to attract them.

But also, I keep a oscillating fan on them, at low speed, during the curing
time.

My machine shed is adjacent to our horse corral and never had flies around
the garlic. Hth.

Subject: [Market-farming] Garlic Storage & Flies

I'm picking my first garlic crop, and storing it suspended in a shed. I'm
concerned because there are times when there can be a lot of flies in the
shed (not too far
from a cow yard). And, of course, anything that the flies land on, after a
while, looks like - well, that flies have been landing on it.

We're keeping the doors closed as much as possible.

I'm not too concerned this year, because most of this crop is going back
into seed for next year. But I would like to sell some of it.

We're not certified organic, but we use those practices (mostly).

Any thoughts?
