Great discussion on greenhouses. A couple of questions and comments:

Bill, what variety of seeds do you use for your baby lettuces and at
how many days from seeding do you harvest? I recall a conversation
with the sales rep from Johnny's (Di Cody is great, she really knows
her stuff) who mentioned that in Hawaii growers are marketing a
Rainbow Mix of teenage sized heads of lkettuce for an excellent
price/#. Multiple varieties packed in "waves" in one case.

Nan, I think it is great to keep a cover over your greens (even in
summer) to protect them from pounding rain, leaves, sticks, birds etc.
A grower on another list has mentioned that just removing the end
walls in a hoop structure will bring the inside temperature to within
a degree or two of the outside temperature with no need to raise the
side walls. Add shade cloth or IR and you can drop another couple of
degrees. Also making the greenhouses no longer than 50 feet is
critical. If you, can I think that orienting the house so that the
prevailing winds go through them rather than across would help.
(where are you in Miss?)

Allison, is the IR a greenhouse plastic or a shade cloth? Where do
you get it?
