Avoid Lacies like the plague. Used to be a good brand, but the last
three models I've bought from them (I'm a stubborn defender of brands
I trust until they turn on me ;) have gone bad within a year or so:
the Porsche-designed 160GB and 250GB drives, and the D2 Quadra 500GB
drives - they simply run waaaay too hot.

I've had good luck with Seagate's FreeAgents, 500GB anyway, I had a bad
experience with a Seagate 500GB (ST3500601XS-RK). I've had decent
experience with Western Digital drives in general, and the MyBook in
sub-500GB sizes has served me reasonably well.

HTH.
