An HTML e-mail with linked images is exactly the same as a web bug,
with the exception that a web bug generally is unique per recipient. Both,
however, allow a user to know when someone loads their e-mail, assuming
the client loads remote images (which many do not). This is a blantant
privacy violation and frankly I would expect better of a website called
"The Privacy Place". Now, I'm more than willing to accept that they
just didn't realize what they were doing, but with a name like that,
I'm much less willing to give them that extra leeway.

Privacy policies are more often than not just a CYA
thing. Why would I e-mail them about it if I was concerned
about them having my e-mail address? That would
just give them my e-mail address directly, defeating my
concern?!?

Frankly, the fact that you don't seem to get these concerns
makes me concerned about "The Privacy Place".
If you're going to research privacy, you'd better d**m well
know about these things to be taken at all seriously.

Cheers,
Tanner
