Hi Folks,

Eric provided some really useful information on this topic and I thought
that I'd share it.

Have a fun Halloween!

Hi Colleen

Group insurance is a misnomer and really should be called business
insurance. For a group policy all you need is 1 person, BUT that person has
to be a 1 person business. You can get group insurance as a
sole-proprietor, but it is much easier to get it if you are incorporated (it
is easier to prove you are a business if you are incorporated).

If you have employees in your business, then you must offer them the same
insurance that you are offering yourself.

The premiums for group insurance are a business expense for the company.
The company must pay for at least 50% of the employee's portion of the bill.
You can deduct the rest from payroll on a pre-tax basis. At least 75% of
the employees must accept the insurance (this is not an issue if you are the
only employee).

I hope this helps.

Call me if you have more questions

Hi Eric,

I hope you are doing well!

Can you give me some of the general rules for a group policy for a small
company? How many people does the company have to have, are the premiums a
business expense for the company, what other things should I be asking?)

Thanks much!

Colleen
