Red Hat should be OK, Mandrake has been optimized for Pentium and above
processors for a long time.

Not I. But since Mandrake is built for Pentium and above, it asks your
486 processor to do things it can't.

Red Hat is reported to work, although text mode install might be wise.
Debian will work like a champ. SuSE should too, AFAIK.
