That's only the latest deal, Don. All of the casinos had to sign on the dotted line a few years ago and not only pay revenues to the state but to share their revenues with tribes that don't have casinos.

The tribes sueing the "big 4" want it both ways. They don't want to sign on to the deal with increased revenues to the state but they want more slots.

And, actually, technically, it is "free" money to the state. If the tribes had wanted to they could have fought the state in court and based on treaties would have had to right to not pay the state a single dime.

While the casinos "might" be a problem in the area of Southern Cal where you lived, the casinos have done a lot for other communities and have made a point of being good neighbors. Not all communities are unhappy with the casinos in their area nor are all "civilian" neighbors unhappy with them.

AND, Arnie made a deal with them. The state budget is being balanced on the
backs of casinos.

Look at the real numbers, income is projected over many years. We are
being sold a bill of goods. The deals are with only four tribes and they
allow an expansion of slot machines from 2000 to over 7000. Tribes that
are not part of the give away are suing those four. Next step is to move
into urban areas. It is not free money.
