If memory serves, .a in AIX *is* a dynamic library. I don't believe
AIX follows the .so convention. If you're not sure, what does file(1)
tell you?

As Frediano said, tsql doesn't use the shared libraries. The simplest
test is to run the unit tests for dblib, or run bsqldb.
